Australia on top after Day 2 at the Spitfire Ground

  • +1

England women v Australia women – day two (of four) Kia Women’s Ashes Test match, The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury

Australia are in touching distance of regaining the Ashes, having already put pride back into Australian cricket, after a determined effort with the bat from debutant Jess Jonassen, while Perry and Schutt did the damage with the ball.  Only a gutsy innings from Katherine Brunt saved England’s blushes, after day 1 had started so promisingly for the home side.

Australia women won the toss and elected to bat

Australia women – 274-9 declared (Jess Jonassen 99, Anya Shrubsole 4-63, Laura Marsh 2-42, Katherine Brunt 2-60)

101 overs – first innings

England women – 168 (Katherine Brunt 39, Natalie Sciver 35, Megan Schutt 4-26, Ellyse Perry 3-38)

84.4 overs – first innings

Weather permitting what can England bring to the table tomorrow in order to turn this test around?
