Middlesex women won the first ever Pemberton Greenish London Cup, beating Surrey by 26 runs, at the Kia Oval on Monday evening.
The Cup match began at 5.30pm; Surrey won the toss and put Middlesex in to bat. Despite getting off to a poor start and losing a wicket off the second ball, Middlesex batted steadily and increased the run rate in the last five overs. Player of the Match Fran Wilson was top scorer with 48 as the visitors reached 126.
It seemed a small total to defend, but tight bowling restricted the home side and the opening pair; Kirstie White and Holly Knight were unable to settle. England all-rounder Natalie Sciver helped the scoreboard tick over but Surrey failed to keep in touch with the run rate required.
In the end Surrey were bowled for 100, losing the match by 26 runs, and Middlesex were able to celebrate being the first team to lift the Pemberton Greenish London Cup, a good victory for player/coach Beth Morgan and new captain Izzy Westbury.
