Ellie Mason on Watford success over Villa

  • +1

‘It was probably the best goal I’ve ever scored!’ said Ellie Mason after the fine win against Aston Villa on Sunday.

While a great team performance earned Watford Ladies the three points at Aston Villa, it was forward Ellie Mason who grabbed the headlines.

Making her first start for the club, Mason’s all-round display upfront for the 87 minutes on the pitch will have won many admirers.

She capped it off by getting the only goal of the game, a stunning strike which left the Villa keeper with no chance. A real goal of the season contender.

“It’s an amazing feeling to get that first win,” the forward told us. “All of the girls played brilliantly today, everyone put a great shift in and it’s just so good to get the three points.”

A recent signing from Chelsea, the addition of the 19-year-old has meant there’s plenty of competition for places in the forward positions, so scoring takes on extra importance.

“It was probably the best goal I’ve ever scored!” she exclaimed. “I’m absolutely buzzing from the strike, it was great that it’s helped us get that first win.

“I thought I had a good game, all of the side did well. We worked hard as a team, defended fantastically and everyone put in 100% effort at all times, couldn’t have asked for anything more.”

There’s now a real chance to build momentum, with a fixture every weekend for the rest of May, starting with Millwall next Sunday.

Mason is confident: “There’s plenty more to come from us, hopefully we’ll show that in the next game against Millwall.”

“We’re all going to put in loads of effort in training next week. We’ll play as a team and keep it nice and simple. If we do all that, more wins will come.”
