Royal London Women’s One-Day cup got underway on 3rd May and Kent got off to a flying start beating Yorkshire by 9 wickets helped by an unbeaten stand of 88 from England Captain Charlotte Edwards. Kent’s second game on 4th May was decided in amid controversial circumstances at stumps, as the umpires declared the scores were level after it initially appeared Kent had won by a single run.
Requiring two to win off the final ball, Kent captain Charlotte Edwards beat the bat and ‘keeper Lauren Griffiths took off the bails and as Kent celebrated the narrowest of wins, Sussex ran a single to level the scores. After discussion between both sides and the umpires, the match ended in a tie between the six-times champions.
Elsewhere there was disappointment for Middlesex as the match was called off because after the heavy rain overnight caused the wicket to be to wet for the game to go ahead.
