Arsenal rescue late point

  • +1

Arsenal rescued a late point at Meadow Lane as they came from one down to equalise and take a share of the points.

County took the lead just before the half hour mark with an early goal of the season contender. A free kick, straight from the training ground and the mind of assistant manager Colin Walker, outfoxed everyone in the stadium, including the Arsenal defence, as a clever move ended with Ellen White curling into the corner from the edge of the area.

Just two minutes later the striker had the chance to double the lead. Jess Clarke did well on the right handside before playing the ball forward for scorer White. The striker got behind the defence and as she looked to race clear on goal, she was tripped from behind with the referee having no hesitation in pointing to the spot. It was the former Arsenal striker who picked herself up to take the spot kick, sending Emma Byrne the wrong way, but unfortunately sending the ball the wrong side of the post.

After the goal, both sides had good spells of possession without carving out any clear cut opportunities until the visitors leveled with a well struck shot of their own. Just eight minutes were left on the clock when substitute Chioma Ubogagu took a touch before firing a half volley into Carly Telford’s bottom corner from 25 yards to ensure the Gunners went home with a share of the points.
