New Zealand claimed the first round of the World Rugby Women’s Seven Series after beating Australia in a classic final match in Dubai. A last minute winner from inspirational captain Sarah Goss saw the Kiwis clinch the win from their rivals, who had impressed throughout the two-day tournament.
In front of a packed house in Dubai, Australia streaked 17 points ahead but, in a role reversal from last year’s final where the Australian girls came back from a massive deficit, New Zealand battled hard and claimed the victory, 19-17.
Canada finished third in the standings after beating France in extra time in their 3rd/4th place play-off.
The Plate final was won by England in a fantastic match against Fiji, which also went to additional time.
